Mission Statement of Theatre IV

Founded in 1975, Theatre IV is a nonprofit, professional theatre that seeks to benefit children, families and schools in four ways.

I.          The Arts: Theatre IV is dedicated to the creation of professional, exciting and innovative theatrical productions of the highest national caliber, and to the presentation of these productions in Richmond, Virginia, and on tour throughout 31 states and the District of Columbia.

II.        Education: Theatre IV is committed to exploring and expanding the ways in which the theatre arts can impact positively on education.  Our plays for young audiences complement the teaching of existing curricula across all grade levels and subject areas. We are guided by the twin beliefs that the arts are fundamental to education, and that education is a life-long activity.

III.       Children’s Health: Theatre IV is committed to exploring and expanding the ways in which the theatre arts can impact positively on children’s health issues.  Our prevention programs work comprehensively with existing human service initiatives to address the most challenging issues faced by today's children and adolescents.

IV.       Community Leadership: Theatre IV is committed to exploring and expanding the ways in which the performing arts can enhance and enrich our sense of community.  Our Board of Directors, staff and artistic family are representative of the community at-large.  We create and implement programs and initiatives in response to community input.  Many of our educational plays explore and celebrate diverse cultures.  With financial support, we price our programs and initiatives so as to be accessible to all individuals and schools, including the less advantaged.  We tour, bringing programs and initiatives to traditionally under-served audiences.

Theatre IV achieves its goals by building partnerships with students, parents, families, schools, performance facilities, businesses and corporations, other nonprofit organizations, governments, and communities at-large.

Executive Summary:
Theatre IV seeks national caliber excellence in four areas: the arts, education, children’s health, and community leadership.
